"Speaking With Mycelium: Thamesmead Archipelago" is a concept for a remediation strategy and environmental data centre
placed upon a landfill site in South East London.
placed upon a landfill site in South East London.
A series of initial structures are proposed in order to facilitate the impregnation of the landfill with mycelium; a networked organism capable of breaking down and remediating hazardous the chemicals, hydrocabins and polymers found in the landfil, whilst the architecture of the data center facilitates and dramaticises the inflow, processing and analysis of the environmental data collected by the mycelium in this process.
As we enter a new age of information, finding ways to communicate with and extract data from natures foundational species will provide our biosphere with tangible and immense quantifiable value, rather than solely being viewed as a commodity and physical resource. Effectively and efficiently communicating with and extracting data from the knowledge of nature encircles our ecosystems in a protective layer as it enables us to demonstrate that some of nature’s resources are better left in the ground.
